Top Maintenance Tips To Keeping Your Park Home Perfect

Posted on 24/02/2025 by Parklands

Park homes have advanced hugely over the past few decades. Increased durability, smarter designs, they’ve been designed to require minimal maintenance, hence why they’ve become such a popular option for those of retirement age. Of course, low maintenance doesn’t mean no maintenance and naturally, some upkeep remains unavoidable.

In this article, we share our top maintenance tips for you, to help keep your park home in tip top condition.

Regularly Clean Your Park Homes’ Roof

The roof is a key component of your park home’s structure and protection from the elements, so making sure that it is in good condition is imperative. Corotiles, a popular roofing material for park homes, is durable and low maintenance but moss buildup should still be removed.

Moss retains moisture, so left long term it can lead to damage. Regular cleaning helps prevent this, and any damage should be repaired as soon as it’s identified.

Check & Repaint Your Park Home’s Exterior

Routine exterior painting not only refreshes the look of your park home but also protects it from the elements. Particularly in the UK’s climate, the exterior paintwork prevents moisture damage seeping into the timberwork beneath. It also helps prevent UV damage and temper temperature fluctuations of the structure of the home.

We recommend regularly checking for cracks in the paintwork of your park home. For any you spot, it’s advisable to have them sealed, as they may become a greater, more expensive problem if left.

Inspect the Area Beneath Your Park Home

Park homes that have a brick skirt surrounding the bottom of their home should be adequately ventilated by using air bricks to allow ventilation and reduce condensation.  Particularly with older homes, it’s a good idea to inspect the chassis every now and then, to monitor its condition. If there’s any rust or corrosion, it should be treated appropriately.

It’s also recommended to check the jacks underneath the home as well to make sure that they’re properly supporting the home. This can help minimise any creaking on the floorboards you may be experiencing too.

Check and Protect Your Earthing Rod

Each park home on our site at Parklands of Lincoln has an earthing rod for the home’s electrics. The earthing rod is staked outside in the soil (next to the home typically) and acts as an electrical earth in case any faults occur. It’s a good idea for earthing rods to have weather protection, which normally means that they’re shielded in a plastic shell, helping to prevent weather erosion. To ensure continued functionality, it’s recommended to have your electrical earth tested every 8 years.

Keep Your Garden Clean & Tidy

Often, there are no obligations with maintaining a garden, but residents tend to look after a border surrounding their home. Keeping on top of garden work may seem like an obvious one, but not doing so, it can soon become out of hand.

Creating a border garden around your home will also help to give your home individuality and helps to make an overall positive impression on the park itself. Ensuring that your home’s outside area is well presented, will likely be well received by your park home neighbours/community.
